How to Start Your SRS Trip with Us

Through the sex transition journey, the first foremost step is meeting a mental health professional to be diagnosed with gender identity disorder or gender dysphoria. Moreover, under endocrinologist’s care, you constantly take hormone and, of course, have experienced living publicly as a female counterpart for at least 1 year. These steps must be taken before entering the final process, Sex Reassignment Surgery.

When you are sure and ready but do not know where to start, we are here to give you the steps of our SRS consultancy service in Thailand.

‍Step 1: go through the check list below which contains the mandatory criteria for you in order to get the approval from the surgeon

● Patients must be at least 18 years of age. For patients under 20 years old, parent permission (either mother or father) is required and the guardians must accompany the patient to Thailand.

● Patients must be diagnosed with at least one of the following disorders: Gender identity disorder, gender dysphoria, or associated conditions and have already received an approval from a psychiatrist (MD), psychiatric social worker (PhD), or clinical psychologist (PhD).

● Patients must have undergone at least one year of anti-androgens or/and female hormones.

● Patients are required to have lived full-time in the cross-gender role for at least one year.

Step 2: prepare the following documents
1. Filled medical form with as-detailed-as-possible health information like your underlying disease, the list of medicine you currently take, the records of plastic surgery, as well as, other operations you have undergone, and the list of food and drug you are allergic to
2. Reference letter from professional psychiatrist with diagnosis of “Gender identity disorder” or “Gender dysphoria”
3. Standard preoperative laboratory test results:
3.1 Blood works: HIV, CBC and Creatinine-BUN
3.2 chest X-ray
3.3 Electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG)
4. In case that you have any chronic disease, medical clearance from your primary physician is needed.

Step 3: book the operation date. Provide us your availability and we will check and confirm with the clinic for you

Step 4: book your flights. We will advise you the dates of arrival and departure. After booking the flights, you provide us your flight itinerary for crosschecking and flight ticket issuing.

‍Step 5: pay at least 10% deposit directly to the clinic. There are 3 payment method options:
● Cash: in any currency on the day you meet with the surgeon for operation consultancy
● Bank transfer: we recommend you to transfer the remainder at least 14 days before departing from your country as international transaction might take time.
● Credit card: the clinic might charge you extra 3-5% fee.

Step 6: we will organize your trip and accommodation within Thailand. We can book the clinic’s partner hotels (depending on your budget) and arrange airport-hotel-hospital transfers, visits to Thai psychiatrists and appointments with the surgeon.

Step 7: arrive in Thailand. Our professional team will physically be by your side on:
● Preoperative consultation
● Postoperative check-up
● Psychiatrist visitSurgery day
● The day you are allowed to leave the clinic/hospital

Q&A
Q: If I do not have psychiatrist’s reference letter from my country in hands upon my arrival in Thailand, can I request for one from psychiatrist in Thailand?
A: We do not recommend that. Asking for a reference letter or medical certificates from Thai psychiatrists now is becoming a stricter procedure comparing to the past and it is rather impossible for them to issue the letter without any reference from psychiatrists in your country. It may turn the trip into a waste-of-time for you. (According to Thai laws, 2 reference letters from professional psychiatrists are required for those who wish to undergo Sex Reassignment Surgery. Our role is to ask for a reconfirmation letter from Thai psychiatrist and enclose it with the reference letter you provide us.)

Q: I do not take hormone or have been on the medication less than 1 year. Can I have the surgery?
‍A: Patients must take hormone for at least 1 year to secure your physical and mental health wellness before the surgery. In case that you cannot take the medication due to your health circumstances, you need to have a medical certificate as a proof.

Q: I never have a real-life experience as female before. Can I undergo the surgery?
‍A: You must be aware that there is no going-back after the surgery so we recommend you to have a full-time cross-gender experience beforehand. Thai psychiatrists prefer not to issue the letter for those who have never lived their live as a woman before.

‍Q: What is ‘Emergency Fund’?
‍A: Initially, we put ‘Emergency Fund’ starting from 1,000 to 7,000 USD (depending on the risk and complication rate during/after the surgery and each clinic’s terms and conditions) on our invoice. In case that any complication occurs after the surgery, it is unavoidable to pay extra expenses from the clinic, accommodation, food, travel fare due to the delay in your trip schedule. You should prepare a sum of money in your debit card, credit card or put your trust in any of your relatives who can supports you financially in case of emergency. The exact-amount budget estimation is not recommended when you travel oversea.
